ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the influence of poor funding of business education programmes on students’ skill acquisition in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Adequate funding is crucial for the effective delivery of educational programmes, including business education, as it supports the provision of quality infrastructure, instructional materials, faculty development, and student support services. It is essential to assess the influence of poor funding on students’ skill acquisition in business education programmes in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and document analysis to collect data from business education students, faculty members, administrators, and policymakers in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The research objectives include examining the funding status of business education programmes, assessing the skill acquisition of students, and exploring the perceived influence of poor funding on skill development.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the influence of poor funding of business education programmes on students’ skill acquisition in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The research will assess the funding status of business education programmes, considering factors such as budget allocation, availability of resources, infrastructure quality, and faculty support. It will evaluate the skill acquisition of students, including their competence in areas such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the study will explore the perceived influence of poor funding on skill development, gathering perspectives from students, faculty members, administrators, and policymakers on the challenges and limitations faced due to inadequate funding.

The implications of this research extend to tertiary institutions, policymakers, and stakeholders involved in business education in Nigeria. The findings will provide institutions and policymakers with valuable insights into the consequences of poor funding on skill acquisition and educational outcomes. It can guide the allocation of resources and the development of funding strategies to enhance business education programmes.
