Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship between internet use and academic achievement among public secondary school students in Lagos State. The rapid advancement of technology, specifically the widespread availability of the internet, has significantly influenced various aspects of individuals’ lives, including education. The objective of this research is to explore the impact of internet use on the academic performance of secondary school students in Lagos State.
The study employs a quantitative research design, utilizing surveys and academic performance data collected from a representative sample of public secondary school students in Lagos State. The survey questionnaire consists of items related to internet usage patterns, frequency of use, and the types of activities students engage in online. Additionally, academic achievement data, such as grade point averages, examination scores, and class rankings, will be obtained from the schools.
The collected data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlation analysis and regression analysis, to determine the relationship between internet use and academic achievement. Furthermore, potential moderating factors, such as socio-demographic characteristics and study habits, will be considered to assess their influence on the relationship.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing knowledge on the impact of internet use on academic achievement among secondary school students in Lagos State. It is expected that the results will provide insights into the advantages and disadvantages of internet use in relation to academic performance. These findings may help educational policymakers, teachers, and parents to develop strategies and guidelines for promoting responsible internet use among students, optimizing its positive effects on academic achievement, and mitigating potential negative consequences.
