APPRAISAL OF ADMINISTRATIVE WORK OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract:
This study aims to assess the administrative work of public secondary school principals in Anambra State, Nigeria. Effective school administration plays a crucial role in shaping the educational landscape and ensuring optimal learning environments. The appraisal of principals’ administrative work serves as a vital tool for identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in their leadership roles.

The research employs a mixed-methods approach to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data collection methods include interviews and focus group discussions with principals, teachers, and other stakeholders, while the quantitative data is obtained through structured questionnaires distributed among relevant participants. The study sample consists of public secondary school principals from various regions within Anambra State.

The appraisal focuses on key aspects of administrative work, including strategic planning, curriculum development, staff management, resource allocation, school-community relations, and policy implementation. By examining these areas, the study seeks to determine the extent to which principals demonstrate effective leadership, address challenges, and promote positive change within their schools.

The research findings will provide valuable insights into the current state of administrative practices among public secondary school principals in Anambra State. It will identify areas of strength that can be replicated and areas requiring improvement. The results will inform policymakers, educational administrators, and relevant stakeholders about the effectiveness of existing policies and programs, facilitating evidence-based decision-making for enhancing school administration and ultimately improving educational outcomes.

The study’s limitations include the potential for response bias in self-reported data and the generalizability of findings limited to the specific context of Anambra State. However, the research contributes to the existing body of knowledge on educational administration and provides a foundation for future studies and interventions aimed at improving the quality of school leadership in Anambra State and similar settings.
