Abstract:
This study investigates the management of organisational cynicism as a predictor of teachers’ job effectiveness in public secondary schools in Imo State. Organisational cynicism refers to the negative attitudes, beliefs, and feelings of employees towards their organization, often resulting from perceived injustice, lack of trust, or dissatisfaction with organizational practices. The study aims to explore the impact of organisational cynicism on teachers’ job effectiveness and identify strategies for managing cynicism to enhance teacher performance.
A mixed-methods research design is employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The study sample consists of teachers from various public secondary schools in Imo State, selected using stratified random sampling techniques.
The quantitative phase involves administering a structured questionnaire to measure teachers’ levels of organisational cynicism and their perceived job effectiveness. The questionnaire includes validated scales to assess cynicism and job effectiveness, as well as demographic variables. Data collected from the survey will be analysed using appropriate statistical techniques, such as correlation analysis and regression analysis, to examine the relationship between organisational cynicism and teachers’ job effectiveness.
The qualitative phase employs semi-structured interviews with a subset of teachers to gain in-depth insights into their experiences of organisational cynicism and its impact on job effectiveness. The interviews will be audio-recorded, transcribed, and analysed thematically to identify common themes and patterns related to cynicism management strategies.
The study’s findings will contribute to the existing literature on organisational cynicism and its effects on teacher performance. By identifying the predictors of cynicism and exploring effective management strategies, the study aims to provide recommendations for educational policymakers and school administrators in Imo State to mitigate the negative impact of cynicism on teachers’ job effectiveness. This research is essential for fostering a positive work environment that promotes teacher satisfaction, motivation, and ultimately enhances the quality of education in public secondary schools.
