EVALUATION ON RE-ENFORCEMENT OF ICT PRACTICES IN STEM TEACHERS IN THE RURAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA
Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate the impact of reinforcing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) practices among Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers in rural secondary schools in Nigeria. The integration of ICT in education has the potential to enhance learning outcomes and prepare students for the demands of an increasingly digital world. However, the effective integration of ICT in the classroom depends on the competence and confidence of teachers in utilizing these tools.
The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from STEM teachers in rural secondary schools across different regions of Nigeria. The study will assess the current level of ICT integration in teaching practices, identify the challenges faced by teachers in utilizing ICT tools, and evaluate the effectiveness of reinforcement strategies aimed at enhancing ICT competency.
The quantitative aspect of the research will involve surveying a representative sample of STEM teachers to gather information on their current level of ICT skills, the frequency of ICT integration in their teaching, and their perceived barriers to effective ICT implementation. The qualitative component will involve in-depth interviews with a subset of teachers to explore their experiences, attitudes, and perceptions regarding ICT integration.
The study will also evaluate the impact of reinforcement strategies such as professional development workshops, ongoing technical support, and access to relevant ICT resources on teachers’ ICT proficiency and confidence. The findings will provide insights into the effectiveness of these strategies in promoting ICT integration and identify areas for improvement.
The results of this study will have implications for educational policymakers, school administrators, and teacher training institutions in Nigeria. By understanding the challenges faced by STEM teachers in rural secondary schools and identifying effective strategies for reinforcing ICT practices, this research aims to contribute to the development of targeted interventions and policies to enhance ICT integration in the Nigerian education system.
