ASSESSMENT OF THE PERCEIVED IMPACTS OF PROGRAMME ACCREDITATION ON THE AVAILABILITY OF PHYSICAL FACILITIES FOR ACADEMIC EFFICIENCY IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES OF NIGERIA.
Abstract:
Programme accreditation plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and standard of academic programs in higher education institutions. This study aims to assess the perceived impacts of programme accreditation on the availability of physical facilities in federal universities in Nigeria and its influence on academic efficiency.
The availability of appropriate physical facilities is essential for creating a conducive learning environment and enhancing academic efficiency. However, the accreditation process often highlights deficiencies in infrastructure, prompting universities to address these gaps to meet accreditation requirements. This study explores the perceived impacts of programme accreditation on the availability of physical facilities and its subsequent effects on academic efficiency.
To achieve the research objectives, a mixed-method research design incorporating quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews will be employed. The survey will be administered to a representative sample of faculty members, administrators, and students from selected federal universities in Nigeria. The qualitative interviews will involve key stakeholders, including university officials responsible for programme accreditation and infrastructure development.
The data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics for the survey data, while the qualitative interviews will be subjected to thematic analysis. The study aims to identify the specific physical facilities that have been improved or newly provided due to programme accreditation and explore the perceived influence of these facilities on academic efficiency.
The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on programme accreditation and its impact on physical infrastructure in higher education institutions in Nigeria. The results will provide insights into the effectiveness of programme accreditation in driving improvements in infrastructure and enhancing academic efficiency. Additionally, the study will offer recommendations to policymakers and university administrators on strategies to optimize the impact of programme accreditation on the availability of physical facilities for academic efficiency.
