ABSTRACT:
This study examines the impact of inflation and economic recession on the education of secondary school students in the Oji River Educational Zone of Enugu State. In recent years, Nigeria has experienced periods of high inflation and economic recession, which have had far-reaching consequences on various sectors, including education. This study aims to understand the specific effects of these macroeconomic factors on the quality of education provided to secondary school students in the region.
The research utilizes both quantitative and qualitative methods to gather data. A survey questionnaire will be administered to a sample of secondary school teachers, students, and parents within the Oji River Educational Zone. The questionnaire will explore the perceived impact of inflation and economic recession on the availability of educational resources, teaching quality, student learning outcomes, and access to educational opportunities.
Additionally, in-depth interviews will be conducted with key stakeholders, including school administrators, policymakers, and representatives from relevant educational institutions. These interviews will provide valuable insights into the underlying causes and potential solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of inflation and economic recession on education.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of inflation and economic recession on education in Nigeria. It is anticipated that the research will reveal challenges faced by secondary schools in the Oji River Educational Zone, such as inadequate funding, reduced teacher motivation, and limited access to educational materials. The study will also identify potential strategies and policy recommendations to address these challenges and improve the education system in the face of economic downturns.
The implications of this study extend beyond the Oji River Educational Zone, as the findings can inform policymakers, educational institutions, and stakeholders at the state and national level on the importance of safeguarding education during periods of economic instability. By understanding the specific impacts and developing targeted interventions, it is hoped that the education system in Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole can be more resilient and better equipped to protect the educational outcomes of secondary school students in challenging economic times.
