Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the predictive role of parental concern, self-efficacy, and school environment on the academic achievement of adolescents with hearing impairment in Lagos State. The academic achievement of students with hearing impairment is influenced by several factors, including parental involvement, the students’ perception of their own abilities, and the supportive environment within the educational institution.

The study employed a quantitative research design, utilizing a questionnaire-based survey to collect data from a sample of adolescents with hearing impairment in Lagos State. The participants were selected through a purposive sampling technique, resulting in a final sample size of 150 participants. The questionnaire included items related to parental concern, self-efficacy beliefs, school environment, and academic achievement.

The findings revealed that parental concern significantly predicted the academic achievement of adolescents with hearing impairment in Lagos State. Parents who expressed higher levels of concern regarding their child’s education were more likely to have children with better academic performance. Additionally, self-efficacy beliefs were found to be significant predictors of academic achievement, suggesting that adolescents who had higher levels of confidence in their abilities were more likely to achieve better academic outcomes.

Furthermore, the study found that the school environment played a significant role in predicting the academic achievement of adolescents with hearing impairment. A supportive and inclusive school environment, characterized by accessible resources, assistive technology, and trained teachers, positively influenced the academic performance of these students.

These findings emphasize the importance of parental involvement, self-efficacy beliefs, and a supportive school environment in promoting the academic achievement of adolescents with hearing impairment. Educational institutions and policymakers should focus on improving parental engagement, fostering a positive self-perception among students, and creating inclusive learning environments to enhance the academic outcomes of students with hearing impairment.
