THE EXTENT OF AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF E-LEARNING RESOURCES FOR TEACHING SCIENCE EDUCATION COURSES IN NOUN DISTANCE LEARNING STUDY CENTRES IN SOUTHEAST NIGERIA
Abstract:
This study investigates the availability and utilization of e-learning resources for teaching science education courses in National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) distance learning study centres located in Southeast Nigeria. With the rapid advancement of technology, e-learning has emerged as an effective tool for delivering educational content remotely. However, the extent to which e-learning resources are available and effectively utilized for teaching science education courses in distance learning study centres remains a topic of interest.
The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A survey questionnaire will be distributed to science education students and tutors within the NOUN distance learning study centres in Southeast Nigeria. The questionnaire will assess the availability and accessibility of e-learning resources, including online platforms, multimedia materials, interactive simulations, and virtual laboratory tools. Additionally, it will examine the frequency and effectiveness of utilizing these resources for science education instruction.
Furthermore, in-depth interviews will be conducted with selected tutors and administrators to gain insights into their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with e-learning in science education. The qualitative data will provide a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the availability and utilization of e-learning resources.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on e-learning in science education, specifically in the context of distance learning study centres in Southeast Nigeria. The results will inform educational institutions, policymakers, and curriculum designers on the current status of e-learning resources for science education courses, identify gaps and barriers, and suggest strategies for improvement.
