INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ENUGU EDUCATION ZONE
Abstract:
The school environment plays a significant role in shaping the academic performance of students. This study aims to investigate the influence of the school environment on the academic performance of students in public secondary schools within the Enugu Education Zone. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of academic performance data with qualitative assessments of the school environment.
The quantitative phase involves collecting academic performance data, including test scores, grades, and attendance records, from a representative sample of public secondary schools in the Enugu Education Zone. These data will be analyzed using statistical techniques to examine the relationship between the school environment and academic performance. Factors such as classroom facilities, availability of learning resources, teacher-student ratio, and extracurricular activities will be considered.
In the qualitative phase, interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted with students, teachers, and school administrators to obtain their perspectives on the school environment and its impact on academic performance. The qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to identify recurring themes and patterns.
The findings from this study will contribute to the understanding of how the school environment influences the academic performance of students in public secondary schools. The results may provide valuable insights for educational policymakers, school administrators, and teachers to improve the learning environment and enhance student outcomes. By identifying specific areas of improvement, such as infrastructure development, resource allocation, and student engagement, interventions can be designed to optimize the school environment to support better academic achievement.
Overall, this research aims to shed light on the critical role of the school environment in shaping students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in the Enugu Education Zone. The study’s outcomes will inform educational stakeholders and policymakers in making evidence-based decisions to create a conducive learning environment that fosters student success and educational excellence.
