IMPACT OF TEACHERS-STUDENTS RELATIONSHIP IN THE CLASSROOM AS PREDICTOR OF QUALITY TEACHING AND LEARNING IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract:
The quality of teaching and learning in secondary schools is greatly influenced by the dynamic and multifaceted relationship between teachers and students. This study aims to examine the impact of teacher-student relationships on the overall quality of teaching and learning in secondary schools within Anambra State, Nigeria.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The study will be conducted in a representative sample of secondary schools in Anambra State, ensuring diversity in terms of location, school size, and academic performance. A total of 500 students and 100 teachers will participate in the study.

Quantitative data will be collected using standardized questionnaires, focusing on various dimensions of teacher-student relationships, such as mutual respect, communication, support, and rapport. Additionally, student and teacher demographic information, academic performance, and perceptions of the teaching and learning environment will be gathered. Qualitative data will be collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions to gain deeper insights into participants’ experiences and perspectives.

The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlation analysis, regression analysis, and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The findings will provide valuable insights into the relationship between teacher-student dynamics and the quality of teaching and learning in secondary schools.

The results of this study are expected to reveal the extent to which positive teacher-student relationships impact student engagement, motivation, and academic achievement. Additionally, the study will explore the factors that contribute to effective teacher-student relationships and identify any barriers or challenges that may hinder their development. The findings will serve as a foundation for evidence-based recommendations and interventions to enhance teacher-student relationships and improve the overall quality of teaching and learning in Anambra State’s secondary schools.
