ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY TEACHER’S PREPARATION IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS FOR EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF ICT PROGRAMME IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE.
Abstract:
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in secondary schools has become increasingly important in preparing students for the digital age. To ensure effective implementation of ICT programmes, it is crucial to assess the quality of teacher’s preparation in tertiary institutions. This study aims to evaluate the current state of teacher’s preparation for ICT integration in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria.
The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The sample will include teachers from various tertiary institutions in Anambra State, responsible for training future educators. Additionally, secondary school teachers involved in implementing ICT programmes will be included in the study.
The qualitative phase will consist of interviews and focus group discussions with teacher educators to explore their perceptions of the ICT curriculum, availability of resources, and challenges faced in preparing future teachers. The quantitative phase will involve the administration of a survey to assess the teachers’ ICT competencies, attitudes towards ICT integration, and perception of their preparedness to implement ICT programmes.
The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques and thematic analysis. The results will provide insights into the current state of teacher’s preparation for ICT integration in Anambra State, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. The findings will guide policymakers, tertiary institutions, and teacher training programs in developing strategies to improve the quality of teacher’s preparation for effective ICT implementation in secondary schools.
It is anticipated that the study’s findings will contribute to addressing the gaps in teacher’s preparation for ICT integration and inform the development of targeted professional development programs. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance the quality of ICT education in Anambra State’s secondary schools, thereby equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in the increasingly digital world.
