APPLICATION OF GEOTRIGMETRIC SET AND GEOBOARD ON STUDENTS` RETENTION IN MATHEMATICS IN RIVERS STATE NIGERIA.

Abstract:
Mathematics education plays a crucial role in the academic development of students, and the challenge of improving students’ retention of mathematical concepts has been a persistent concern worldwide. This study focuses on the application of geotrigmetric sets and geoboards as instructional tools to enhance students’ retention in mathematics in Rivers State, Nigeria.

The research is based on the premise that the use of manipulative tools, such as geotrigmetric sets and geoboards, can provide students with concrete and visual representations of mathematical concepts, thereby facilitating a deeper understanding and improved retention. The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of these tools in enhancing students’ retention of geometric and trigonometric concepts in the context of Rivers State’s educational system.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A sample of students from selected secondary schools in Rivers State will participate in the study. The students will be divided into experimental and control groups, with the experimental group receiving instruction utilizing geotrigmetric sets and geoboards, while the control group will receive conventional instruction without these manipulative tools.

Quantitative data will be collected through pre- and post-tests to assess students’ retention of mathematical concepts. The data will be analyzed using statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. Qualitative data will be collected through observations, interviews, and reflective journals to gather insights into students’ perceptions and experiences with the instructional tools.

The expected outcomes of this research will provide empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of geotrigmetric sets and geoboards in improving students’ retention of mathematical concepts in Rivers State, Nigeria. The findings will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on mathematics education and provide valuable insights for educators and policymakers in developing effective instructional strategies.
