Abstract:
The integration of Information Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed various sectors, including education. This abstract presents a summary of the research conducted to examine the impact of ICT on the management of secondary education in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study aimed to explore how the implementation of ICT tools and strategies has influenced administrative processes, teaching and learning practices, and overall educational outcomes in secondary schools.
The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A survey questionnaire was administered to secondary school administrators, teachers, and students in Enugu State, gathering information on their perceptions and experiences regarding the integration of ICT in education. Additionally, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were conducted with key stakeholders to obtain detailed insights into the challenges, benefits, and potential areas for improvement in ICT implementation.
The findings revealed that ICT has had a significant impact on the management of secondary education in Enugu State. Administratively, ICT has streamlined various processes, including student registration, record-keeping, and communication between stakeholders. Moreover, the availability of online learning platforms and digital resources has enhanced access to educational materials, expanded learning opportunities, and promoted self-directed learning among students.
However, the study also identified several challenges hindering the effective integration of ICT in secondary education. These challenges include inadequate infrastructure, limited access to ICT tools and reliable internet connectivity, insufficient teacher training, and resistance to change. Addressing these barriers is crucial to maximizing the potential of ICT in education and ensuring equitable access to quality education for all students in Enugu State.
The research concludes that the successful integration of ICT in secondary education management requires a holistic approach that considers infrastructure development, teacher capacity building, policy support, and stakeholder collaboration. It recommends the provision of adequate ICT infrastructure in schools, training programs for teachers to enhance their ICT skills, and the formulation of policies that promote the effective use of ICT in education.
Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the impact of ICT in education and provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders in Enugu State, Nigeria, to enhance the management of secondary education through the effective integration of ICT.
