Abstract:
National security and conflict prevention are crucial for the stability and development of any nation. In Nigeria, a country characterized by diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds, the promotion of inclusive peace education plays a vital role in enhancing national security and preventing conflicts. This abstract explores the significance of inclusive peace education as a strategy to address the root causes of conflicts and foster sustainable peace in Nigeria.

This study examines the multifaceted nature of conflicts in Nigeria, including ethno-religious tensions, resource competition, political marginalization, and socio-economic disparities. It highlights the interplay between these factors and their impact on national security. Traditional approaches to national security often focus on military and law enforcement measures, neglecting the underlying social, economic, and political factors that contribute to conflicts. Inclusive peace education, however, adopts a holistic approach by addressing the root causes of conflicts and promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.

Inclusive peace education encompasses a broad range of educational initiatives that promote dialogue, tolerance, respect for diversity, and conflict resolution skills. It seeks to empower individuals, particularly young people, with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to prevent and manage conflicts peacefully. By fostering inclusive peace education, Nigeria can cultivate a generation of citizens who are equipped to address societal grievances constructively, promote social cohesion, and actively participate in the nation-building process.

This abstract emphasizes the role of inclusive peace education in enhancing national security by creating an enabling environment for sustainable peace and development. It highlights the need for comprehensive peace education programs that are integrated into the formal education system, as well as community-based initiatives that reach marginalized populations. Furthermore, it underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners to promote inclusive peace education effectively.

The findings of this study contribute to the growing body of knowledge on national security and conflict prevention strategies in Nigeria. By recognizing the place of inclusive peace education in addressing the root causes of conflicts, policymakers and stakeholders can develop evidence-based strategies that prioritize education as a vital tool for promoting national security, social cohesion, and sustainable peace in Nigeria.
