EFFECT OF HEURISTIC METHOD ON STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE IN SHORTHAND IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This research project examines the effect of the heuristic method on students’ performance in shorthand in Colleges of Education in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The study aims to investigate the impact of employing the heuristic teaching approach on students’ learning outcomes, comprehension, and retention of shorthand skills.

A quasi-experimental research design will be used, with a control group and an experimental group. The experimental group will receive instruction using the heuristic method, while the control group will receive traditional instruction. The research objectives include assessing the baseline performance of students in shorthand, implementing the heuristic method as an intervention in the experimental group, comparing the performance of students in the experimental and control groups, and analyzing the impact of the heuristic method on students’ shorthand skills, comprehension, and retention.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the effect of the heuristic method on students’ performance in shorthand. The research will assess the initial performance of students in shorthand, establishing a baseline for comparison. It will then implement the heuristic method as an instructional intervention, focusing on its effectiveness in promoting active learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and engagement among students. Additionally, the research will compare the performance of students in the experimental and control groups, analyzing the impact of the heuristic method on shorthand skills acquisition, comprehension of shorthand rules and symbols, and long-term retention of shorthand knowledge.
