Abstract:
This study aims to examine the impact of social support on students’ academic achievement in senior secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria. Social support plays a significant role in students’ educational experiences and has been found to influence their academic performance and overall well-being. The study focuses on understanding the types of social support received by students and how these support systems contribute to their academic success.
The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data from a sample of senior secondary school students in the FCT, Abuja. The questionnaire includes items that assess various dimensions of social support, such as emotional support, instrumental support, and informational support. Additionally, students’ academic achievement will be measured using their cumulative grade point averages (CGPAs) or examination scores.
The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the relationship between social support and students’ academic achievement in the FCT, Abuja. It is expected that students who perceive higher levels of social support will demonstrate better academic performance compared to those with lower levels of social support. The study will also explore the specific types of social support that have the most significant impact on academic achievement.
The results of this research will have important implications for educational policymakers, school administrators, teachers, and parents in the FCT, Abuja. Understanding the influence of social support on students’ academic achievement can help in the development of effective interventions and support systems within schools. By identifying the types of social support that are most beneficial to students, appropriate strategies can be implemented to enhance their academic performance and overall well-being.
In conclusion, this study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the impact of social support on students’ academic achievement in senior secondary schools. The findings will shed light on the importance of fostering a supportive environment for students and highlight the key areas where interventions can be targeted to enhance academic outcomes.
