Abstract:
This abstract provides a summary of a study examining the correlation between mentorship, internship, and business start-ups among young people in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study aimed to explore the impact of mentorship and internship programs on the entrepreneurial endeavors of young individuals.

The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative survey data and qualitative interviews. A sample of young entrepreneurs in Lagos State was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The quantitative data were collected through a structured questionnaire, while the qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews.

The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between mentorship, internship experiences, and the establishment of business start-ups among young people. The quantitative analysis indicated that individuals who received mentorship and participated in internships were more likely to initiate their own businesses compared to those who did not have such experiences. The qualitative interviews provided deeper insights into the specific ways in which mentorship and internship programs contributed to the development of entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, and networks.

The study highlighted the significance of mentorship and internship initiatives in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit and providing practical training for young individuals in Lagos State. It emphasized the importance of mentorship in terms of providing guidance, support, and role models for aspiring entrepreneurs. Additionally, internships were found to be instrumental in equipping young people with practical skills, industry exposure, and networking opportunities.

Based on the findings, it is recommended that policymakers, educational institutions, and business organizations in Lagos State prioritize the establishment and enhancement of mentorship and internship programs. Such initiatives should be designed to facilitate knowledge transfer, skill development, and networking opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Furthermore, partnerships between the public and private sectors should be encouraged to create more internship opportunities and expand mentorship networks.

This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the relationship between mentorship, internships, and business start-ups among young people in Lagos State. It underscores the importance of targeted support systems to empower and enable the next generation of entrepreneurs, ultimately fostering economic growth and development in the region.
