Abstract:
This study examines the influence of parental economic status on the educational attainment of secondary school students in Eti-Osa, Lagos State. The educational attainment of students is a critical factor in determining their future prospects and opportunities. Parental economic status, as a socio-economic factor, plays a significant role in shaping the educational outcomes of their children.

The study adopts a quantitative research design, utilizing a structured questionnaire to collect data from a sample of secondary school students in Eti-Osa, Lagos State. The questionnaire includes items related to parental economic status, educational backgrounds, and the academic performance of students. The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlation analysis and regression analysis, to examine the relationship between parental economic status and educational attainment.

The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the ways in which parental economic status influences the educational outcomes of secondary school students. It is hypothesized that students from higher economic backgrounds may have better access to educational resources, such as quality schools, private tutors, and educational materials, which can positively impact their academic performance. On the other hand, students from lower economic backgrounds may face financial constraints that limit their access to educational opportunities and resources, potentially affecting their educational attainment.

The study’s results will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the influence of parental economic status on educational attainment. The findings may have important implications for policymakers, educators, and parents in developing strategies and interventions to address educational disparities and promote equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their economic backgrounds.
