Abstract:
This abstract provides a summary of a study that explores the utilization of social media platforms by lecturers in Colleges of Education for the purpose of teaching Office Technology and Management Education (OTME). The study investigates the trends, challenges, and potential benefits associated with incorporating social media into the teaching and learning process of OTME.

Social media has become an integral part of our daily lives, with its widespread use across various sectors. In the field of education, social media has gained prominence as a potential tool to enhance teaching and learning experiences. However, its adoption and integration into the specific context of OTME within Colleges of Education are relatively unexplored.

The research methodology employed in this study includes a mixed-methods approach, incorporating surveys and interviews. Firstly, a survey is conducted among lecturers in Colleges of Education, targeting those engaged in teaching OTME courses. The survey aims to gather data on the lecturers’ current use of social media platforms for teaching purposes, as well as their perceptions, challenges, and attitudes towards this mode of instruction. Additionally, a subset of participants will be selected for follow-up interviews to gain deeper insights into their experiences and practices.

The anticipated findings of this study will shed light on the current landscape of social media usage within the context of OTME instruction. It will explore the types of social media platforms commonly utilized, the specific teaching strategies employed, and the perceived benefits and challenges associated with their use.

The potential benefits of incorporating social media in teaching OTME include increased student engagement, improved collaboration and communication, enhanced access to resources and information, and the development of digital literacy skills relevant to the field. However, challenges such as privacy concerns, information overload, and maintaining a balance between academic and personal use of social media may also arise.

The findings of this study will provide valuable insights for educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and lecturers in Colleges of Education. It will inform the development of guidelines and strategies for effectively integrating social media into OTME instruction, ensuring its alignment with educational goals and maximizing its potential benefits while addressing the associated challenges.

Keywords: social media, Colleges of Education, Office Technology and Management Education (OTME), teaching, learning, integration, benefits, challenges.
