Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the effects of values clarification and gender on success orientation among undergraduates in South West, Nigeria. Success orientation refers to an individual’s attitude and motivation towards achieving personal and academic goals. The study explores the potential influence of values clarification, a process that involves identifying and prioritizing personal values, on success orientation, taking into consideration the role of gender.
The sample for this study consists of undergraduate students from various universities in the South West region of Nigeria. A mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, will be employed to gather data. The survey will include measures of values clarification, success orientation, and demographic information, while the interviews will provide a deeper understanding of the participants’ experiences and perspectives.
The study hypothesizes that values clarification will positively influence success orientation among undergraduates. It is expected that individuals who engage in values clarification exercises will have a clearer understanding of their personal values and priorities, which, in turn, will contribute to a stronger orientation towards achieving success in their academic pursuits.
Furthermore, the study will explore potential gender differences in success orientation. Previous research suggests that gender may play a role in shaping individuals’ attitudes and motivations towards success. By examining the influence of gender, the study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the intersection between values clarification, gender, and success orientation among undergraduates.
The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the role of values clarification and gender in shaping success orientation among undergraduate students in South West, Nigeria. The results may have implications for educational institutions and policymakers in developing interventions and support systems to enhance success orientation among students. Additionally, the study may contribute to the existing literature on values clarification, gender, and success orientation, thereby expanding our knowledge in the field of educational psychology and student development.
