ASSESSMENT OF ORPHAN AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN EDUCATION SUPPORT IN NIGERIA.

Abstract:
This abstract provides a concise overview of a comprehensive assessment conducted to evaluate the education support available for orphan and vulnerable children (OVC) in Nigeria. The study aimed to identify the existing challenges and gaps in educational interventions for OVC and propose recommendations for enhancing their educational outcomes.

The assessment employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative data was gathered through interviews with key stakeholders, including government officials, educators, caregivers, and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the field of child welfare. In addition, surveys and questionnaires were administered to OVC, their caregivers, and teachers to capture their perspectives and experiences.

The findings of the assessment highlighted several key issues. Firstly, it revealed significant disparities in access to education among OVC, with many facing barriers such as poverty, discrimination, and social exclusion. Moreover, the quality of education provided to OVC was often inadequate, resulting in limited learning outcomes and reduced opportunities for future advancement.

Furthermore, the assessment revealed that existing educational support programs for OVC were fragmented, lacking coordination among various stakeholders. Limited financial resources, insufficient infrastructure, and a shortage of trained teachers were identified as major obstacles to improving educational support for OVC.

Based on the findings, several recommendations were proposed to enhance the education support for OVC in Nigeria. These included the development of targeted interventions to address the specific needs of OVC, such as scholarships, school feeding programs, and psychosocial support services. Additionally, there was a need for increased investment in education infrastructure, teacher training programs, and the establishment of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of interventions.

In conclusion, the assessment shed light on the challenges faced by OVC in accessing quality education in Nigeria. By identifying these challenges and proposing targeted recommendations, this study aims to contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve the educational outcomes and overall well-being of orphan and vulnerable children in the country.
