ASSESSING AND EVALUATING IMPLEMENTATION OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT INTERVENTIONS FOR HIV-POSITIVE PATIENTS IN UUTH HOSPITAL, AKWA IBOM STATE.

Abstract:
This study aimed to assess and evaluate the implementation of technical support interventions for HIV-positive patients in UUTH Hospital, Akwa Ibom State. The effective management and support of HIV-positive patients are crucial to achieving better health outcomes and reducing the burden of the disease. Technical support interventions encompass various strategies and resources that enhance the delivery of healthcare services and address the specific needs of HIV-positive individuals.

The study employed a mixed-methods research design, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected through interviews, surveys, and document reviews. A sample of healthcare providers, HIV-positive patients, and hospital administrators was selected to provide diverse perspectives on the implementation of technical support interventions.

The findings revealed both strengths and areas for improvement in the implementation of technical support interventions in UUTH Hospital. The strengths included the availability of trained healthcare providers, provision of comprehensive HIV care services, and the existence of support groups for HIV-positive patients. However, the study also identified challenges such as inadequate funding, limited access to specialized care, and insufficient patient education and counseling.

Based on the study findings, several recommendations were made to enhance the implementation of technical support interventions for HIV-positive patients. These recommendations included increasing funding allocation for HIV care, expanding access to specialized services, strengthening patient education and counseling, and improving coordination among healthcare providers and support groups.

This study contributes to the existing literature on HIV care and support by providing insights into the implementation of technical support interventions in a specific healthcare setting. The findings can inform policymakers, healthcare administrators, and stakeholders involved in HIV care delivery, helping them identify areas for improvement and develop targeted interventions to enhance the quality of services provided to HIV-positive patients in UUTH Hospital, Akwa Ibom State.
