ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the effects of substandard computer laboratories on ICT skills acquisition of Higher National Diploma (HND) students of Office Technology and Management in public polytechnics in Edo State. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills are essential for students pursuing careers in office technology and management. However, the availability and quality of computer laboratories significantly influence students’ ability to acquire these skills. It is crucial to assess the effects of substandard computer laboratories on ICT skills acquisition among HND students in Edo State’s public polytechnics.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, observations, and interviews to collect data from HND students, faculty members, administrators, and ICT support staff in public polytechnics in Edo State. The research objectives include examining the state of computer laboratories, assessing the impact of substandard facilities on ICT skills acquisition, and exploring potential solutions to improve the learning environment.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the effects of substandard computer laboratories on ICT skills acquisition among HND students of Office Technology and Management in public polytechnics in Edo State. The research will assess the state of computer laboratories, considering factors such as hardware quality, software availability, network connectivity, and maintenance practices. It will evaluate the impact of substandard facilities on ICT skills acquisition, including students’ proficiency in areas such as computer applications, data management, internet utilization, and office automation.
