ABSTRACT

This research project aims to examine the diversity management skills required in the 21st century public office in Nigeria. In today’s globalized and multicultural society, public offices face increasing diversity in their workforce, constituents, and stakeholders. Effective management of this diversity is crucial for promoting inclusivity, ensuring equitable representation, and maximizing organizational performance. This study seeks to identify the diversity management skills that public office employees in Nigeria need to possess to navigate the complexities of a diverse workplace, address challenges related to diversity, and foster an inclusive environment.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and document analysis to gather data from public office employees, managers, and policymakers in Nigeria. The research objectives include identifying the diversity management skills required in the 21st century public office, exploring the challenges associated with diversity management, and proposing recommendations for enhancing diversity management practices in the Nigerian public sector.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the diversity management skills necessary for effective public office administration in Nigeria. The research will identify key skills, such as cultural competence, inclusive leadership, effective communication, conflict resolution, collaboration, and empathy, that enable public office employees to navigate diverse environments successfully. It will examine the challenges faced in managing diversity, such as unconscious bias, stereotyping, resistance to change, lack of awareness, and limited resources. Additionally, the study will propose recommendations for enhancing diversity management practices in the Nigerian public sector, including the development of training programs, policies, and initiatives that foster diversity awareness, promote inclusive leadership, and create a supportive work environment
