INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DATA PROTECTION MEASURES IN SAFEGUARDING PERSONAL RECORDS IN NIGERIAN HEALTHCARE ORGANISATIONS
In recent years, the growing digitization of healthcare records has presented numerous benefits to Nigerian healthcare organisations, including improved data accessibility and streamlined healthcare services. However, this digital transformation also raises concerns about the security and privacy of personal records. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of data protection measures implemented by Nigerian healthcare organisations in safeguarding personal records.
The research utilises a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative interviews. The quantitative phase involves collecting data through surveys administered to healthcare organisations across Nigeria. The surveys will assess the current data protection practises, including the use of encryption, access controls, staff training, and incident response protocols. Additionally, the surveys will gather information on data breach incidents and their impact on personal records.
The qualitative phase involves conducting in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including healthcare administrators, IT managers, and data protection officers. These interviews will provide insights into the challenges faced by healthcare organisations in ensuring data protection and the strategies employed to address these challenges. Furthermore, the interviews will explore the awareness and understanding of data protection regulations, such as the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), among healthcare professionals.
The collected data will be analyzed using statistical techniques, such as descriptive statistics and regression analysis, to examine the relationship between data protection measures and the security of personal records. The qualitative data will be thematically analysed to identify recurring patterns and themes related to data protection practises and challenges.
The findings of this study aim to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on data protection in Nigerian healthcare organisations. The research outcomes will provide insights into the effectiveness of current data protection measures, identify gaps in compliance with data protection regulations, and propose recommendations for improving data security in the Nigerian healthcare sector.
