THE REMOTE TEACHING SKILLS BUSINESS EDUCATORS NEED IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to identify the remote teaching skills that business educators in tertiary institutions in Nigeria require to effectively deliver instruction in online and blended learning environments. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the education sector, necessitating a shift towards remote teaching and learning. This study seeks to explore the specific skills that business educators need to successfully engage students, facilitate learning, and maintain instructional quality in remote teaching settings.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys and interviews to collect data from business educators in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The research objectives include identifying the essential remote teaching skills perceived by educators, assessing their level of proficiency in these skills, exploring the challenges encountered in remote teaching, and investigating the support mechanisms required to enhance educators’ remote teaching capabilities.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the remote teaching skills required by business educators in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The research will identify specific skills, such as technological proficiency, instructional design for online environments, effective communication and engagement strategies, assessment and feedback techniques, and student support and interaction. It will assess the level of proficiency of educators in these skills, providing an understanding of their self-perceived competence in remote teaching. Additionally, the study will explore the challenges faced by educators in transitioning to remote teaching and identify the support mechanisms, including training, resources, and institutional support, necessary to enhance their remote teaching capabilities.
