ASSESSMENT OF THE ADEQUACY OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS’ CORE SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to assess the adequacy of core skills possessed by business education students in meeting the demands of the knowledge economy. The knowledge economy places a strong emphasis on skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, digital literacy, and communication, among others. This study seeks to evaluate the extent to which business education students possess these core skills and their preparedness for the evolving requirements of the knowledge economy.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, incorporating surveys, interviews, and skills assessments to collect data from business education students in tertiary institutions. The research objectives include identifying the core skills deemed essential in the knowledge economy, assessing the level of proficiency of business education students in these skills, exploring the integration of these skills into the curriculum, and examining the perceptions of students and educators regarding the adequacy of current skill development efforts.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the adequacy of core skills possessed by business education students in the knowledge economy. The research will identify the specific skills considered crucial in the knowledge economy, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, collaboration, information literacy, and technological proficiency. It will assess the level of proficiency of business education students in these skills, providing an understanding of their self-perceived competence. Furthermore, the study will explore the integration of these skills into the curriculum, including the extent to which they are explicitly taught and assessed.
