THE STRATEGIES FOR ENHANCING SKILL ACQUISITION AMONG BUSINESS STUDIES STUDENTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL IN KADUNA STATE

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to explore strategies for enhancing skill acquisition among business studies students in secondary schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Skill acquisition is essential for students to develop the competencies required for successful careers and entrepreneurship. Business studies education provides a foundation for acquiring business-related skills, such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This study seeks to identify effective strategies for enhancing skill acquisition among business studies students, assess their implementation in secondary schools, examine their impact on students’ skill development, and propose recommendations for improving skill acquisition in the context of business studies education.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, classroom observations, and curriculum analysis to collect data from business studies students, teachers, school administrators, and educational stakeholders in Kaduna State. The research objectives include identifying effective strategies for enhancing skill acquisition among business studies students, evaluating their implementation in secondary schools, assessing the impact on students’ skill development, and proposing recommendations for improvement.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into strategies for enhancing skill acquisition among business studies students in secondary schools in Kaduna State. The research will identify a range of effective strategies, including project-based learning, experiential learning, internships and apprenticeships, entrepreneurship programs, industry collaboration, and technology integration. It will assess the implementation of these strategies in secondary schools, examining the extent to which they are incorporated into the business studies curriculum and instructional practices. Additionally, the study will evaluate the impact of these strategies on students’ skill development, including improvements in their financial literacy, entrepreneurial mindset, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and critical thinking. Furthermore, the research will propose recommendations for improving skill acquisition among business studies students, such as curriculum enhancements, teacher training programs, increased industry engagement, and the provision of resources and technology.

The implications of this research extend to business studies students, teachers, school administrators, policymakers, and curriculum developers. The findings will provide business studies students with insights into effective strategies for enhancing skill acquisition, empowering them to actively engage in skill development activities and prepare for future careers. Teachers and school administrators can utilize the research findings to enhance their instructional practices, curriculum design, and school policies, ensuring that skill acquisition is prioritized within the business studies program. Policymakers and curriculum developers can leverage the research findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote the integration of effective skill acquisition strategies into the business studies curriculum, thereby improving the overall quality of education and preparing students for the demands of the workforce
