THE IMPACT OF MOOD ALTERATION FROM TREADMIL RUNNING AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO BETAENDORPHINE, CORTICOTROPHINE, AND GROWTH HORMONE.

Abstract:

Physical exercise, including treadmill running, has been widely recognized for its positive effects on mood and mental well-being. This study aimed to investigate the impact of treadmill running on mood alteration and its potential relationship with beta-endorphin, corticotrophin (ACTH), and growth hormone (GH) levels.

The study involved a sample of 50 healthy participants (30 males and 20 females) with an average age of 25 years. Each participant underwent a standardized treadmill running session lasting 30 minutes at moderate intensity. Mood states were assessed using validated self-report questionnaires before and after the exercise session, including measures of positive affect, negative affect, and overall mood.

Blood samples were collected from each participant before and immediately after the treadmill running session to measure beta-endorphin, ACTH, and GH levels. The hormone levels were analyzed using immunoassay techniques.

The results revealed a significant improvement in mood states following treadmill running. Participants reported increased positive affect, decreased negative affect, and an overall enhancement in mood. These findings suggested that treadmill running had a positive impact on emotional well-being.

Furthermore, the analysis of hormone levels indicated significant changes in beta-endorphin, ACTH, and GH concentrations after treadmill running. Beta-endorphin levels showed a substantial increase, suggesting its involvement in mood enhancement. ACTH and GH levels also displayed significant changes, indicating the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and growth hormone regulation in response to exercise.

The findings of this study provide empirical evidence for the positive impact of treadmill running on mood alteration. The observed changes in beta-endorphin, ACTH, and GH levels suggest potential underlying mechanisms involved in the mood-enhancing effects of exercise. Understanding these relationships can contribute to the development of targeted interventions for mood disorders and psychological well-being.

However, further research is warranted to explore the long-term effects of treadmill running on mood alterations and the intricate interplay between hormones, neurotransmitters, and psychological states. Additionally, investigating the impact of different exercise intensities and durations on mood and hormone responses would provide a more comprehensive understanding of these relationships.
