A META-ANALYSIS OF LEISURE-TIME PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SUBJECTIVE WELL-BEING.

Abstract:

This meta-analysis explores the relationship between leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) and subjective well-being (SWB) by synthesizing findings from a diverse range of studies. Subjective well-being, encompassing aspects such as life satisfaction, happiness, and positive affect, is a crucial indicator of overall mental and emotional health. Understanding the impact of leisure-time physical activity on subjective well-being has significant implications for public health interventions and policy recommendations.

A comprehensive search of electronic databases yielded a collection of relevant studies published up to the present date. Inclusion criteria focused on studies examining the association between leisure-time physical activity and subjective well-being, with a variety of research designs and populations considered. The final selection included a diverse range of studies, providing a comprehensive overview of the existing literature.

The meta-analysis employs statistical techniques to quantify the overall effect size of the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and subjective well-being, while also exploring potential moderating factors. Findings indicate a robust and positive association between engagement in leisure-time physical activity and enhanced subjective well-being. The effect size is consistent across various demographic groups, such as age, gender, and socioeconomic status.

Moreover, the analysis reveals that the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and subjective well-being is not only statistically significant but also clinically meaningful. Individuals who engage in regular leisure-time physical activity report higher levels of life satisfaction, greater positive affect, and lower levels of negative affect compared to their less active counterparts.

This meta-analysis contributes valuable insights to the existing body of knowledge by providing a quantitative synthesis of the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and subjective well-being. The findings underscore the importance of promoting leisure-time physical activity as a key component of public health initiatives aimed at enhancing overall well-being. Future research may explore potential mechanisms underlying this relationship and investigate specific interventions to optimize the positive impact of leisure-time physical activity on subjective well-being.
