Abstract:
This study aims to explore the concept of labeling theory and its implications for juvenile justice policies. Labeling theory, also known as societal reaction theory, posits that societal responses to deviant behavior play a crucial role in shaping an individual’s self-identity and subsequent behavior. The theory suggests that when individuals, particularly juveniles, are labeled as delinquents or criminals, they may internalize these labels and adopt a deviant self-identity, leading to a higher likelihood of further delinquency.

This research seeks to investigate how labeling theory has influenced the development and implementation of juvenile justice policies. It will examine how the labeling of juveniles as delinquents or offenders affects their treatment within the justice system, including their access to resources, opportunities for rehabilitation, and reintegration into society. Furthermore, the study will explore the potential ramifications of labeling on the long-term outcomes and trajectories of juvenile offenders.

To undertake this examination, the research will employ a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data sources.
