IDENTIFICATION OF PRACTICAL TASKS AND SKILLS NECESSARY FOR PRACTICAL WORK ASSESSMENT IN FOUNDRY CRAFT PRACTICE IN TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN NIGERIA
Abstract:
This study aims to identify the practical tasks and skills necessary for the assessment of practical work in foundry craft practice within technical colleges in Nigeria. Foundry craft practice is a critical vocational skill that plays a significant role in Nigeria’s industrial sector. However, there is a dearth of research focusing on the practical tasks and skills required for effective assessment in this field.
The research methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing literature, curriculum documents, and industry standards related to foundry craft practice. Additionally, interviews and surveys will be conducted with experienced instructors, industry experts, and students to gather insights into the practical tasks and skills deemed essential for successful practical work assessment.
The findings from this study will contribute to the development of a comprehensive list of practical tasks and skills necessary for effective assessment in foundry craft practice. The identified tasks may include activities such as pattern making, core making, molding, melting, and casting, while the essential skills may encompass technical knowledge, manual dexterity, safety awareness, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The outcomes of this research will provide valuable guidance to technical colleges in Nigeria for curriculum development, instructional planning, and assessment design. By aligning the practical tasks and skills with industry requirements, educational institutions can ensure that graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies to meet industry demands and contribute effectively to the foundry craft sector.
Furthermore, the study will address the challenges and limitations associated with assessing practical work in foundry craft practice, such as limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and the need for qualified instructors. Recommendations will be provided to improve the assessment process and enhance the overall quality of technical education in Nigeria.
In conclusion, this research will contribute to bridging the gap in knowledge regarding the identification of practical tasks and skills necessary for practical work assessment in foundry craft practice. It will provide valuable insights to technical colleges, educational policymakers, and industry stakeholders, ultimately leading to the improvement of vocational education and the development of a skilled workforce in the foundry craft sector in Nigeria.
