Integrating Interactive Environments in Designing the School of Architecture for the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

Abstract:

Architectural design spaces have traditionally held a central position within architectural curricular programs globally, serving as the foundation for educating students on the participatory aspects of the design process. However, the prevailing role of architectural spaces within contemporary academic architectural studies necessitates a reevaluation. This calls for a redirection of focus towards the design of architectural spaces, aiming to cultivate an immersive and collaborative ambiance for its occupants. This research paper amalgamates architectural design techniques and objectives pertinent to open space facilities. These facilities are designed to alleviate stress within learning environments, particularly those situated within densely populated urban settings such as university campuses. Through an analysis of existing literature and insights from experts, strategies are identified to incorporate sustainability as a foundational element, thereby establishing a functional framework for educational institutions housing schools of architecture in Nigeria. This groundwork culminates in the development of a questionnaire designed to gather pertinent data, enhancing the quality and efficacy of interactive spatial organization. The research findings underscore the importance of infusing sustainable construction strategies into educational spaces, ensuring alignment with both learning and teaching requisites while retaining adaptability for non-traditional purposes. The study advocates the formulation of guidelines that prioritize flexibility, functionality, blended learning, and user-centered design. This alternative approach emphasizes user experience, concurrently enhancing the training of aspiring architects by fostering the creation of enriched interactive spaces.
