Streamlining Device-to-Device Communication Data Transfer through Automated Radio Selection.

Abstract:

With the rapid advancement of telecommunication technology, selecting the appropriate radio for data transfer in a multi-radio system, particularly in device-to-device (D2D) communications, remains a challenging task. Devices like phones are equipped with various radio systems such as Bluetooth, Wireless Fidelity (WiFi), and Global System for Mobile communication (GSM), requiring manual user intervention for radio selection, leading to delays and increased power consumption. To address this issue, an automatic radio selection approach based on specific criteria, particularly the coverage area, is proposed in this research. The method utilizes a Geo-Position Service (GPS) module, Bluetooth device, Long range (LoRa) module, and an Arduino Nano. The results demonstrate successful automatic radio selection for data transfer in D2D communications, with the device consuming only 10% of its energy within a twenty-four-hour period.
