AN EVALUATION OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLY ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SCALE ENTERPRISES (SMEs)IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Even though previous empirical research has shown that various factors influence the performance of SMEs in Nigeria, power supply remains the key driver of economic activity and its ripple effects.

consequences on the efficiency of SMEs in Nigeria have not been thoroughly studied there. In light of this, this study looked at how the performance of SMEs in Ado-Odo, Ota LGA, and Ogun State was affected by electricity. As a result, purposive sampling was used to distribute the questionnaires to the respondents. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS), variance analysis (ANOVA), correlations, and ordinary least squares (OLS) methods were used to evaluate the data. There were 120 questionnaires, of which 90 were collected and examined. The results indicated that In Ogun State’s Ado-Odo Ota Area, the performance of SMEs is significantly impacted by the availability of electricity. Additionally, alternative energy sources significantly affect the performance of SMEs in Ogun State’s Ado-Odo Ota Area. Therefore, generally speaking, based on the results of this study, the paper made the following suggestion for the policymakers and business owners in Ado-Odo, Ota Area of Ogun State in particular, and Nigeria in general: sufficient electricity supply should be placed in a location that maximizes the efficiency of small and medium-sized businesses. Along the same line, business owners of SMEs should work to use alternative energy sources to improve SMEs’ performance and help them achieve their market goals. electricity; supply; SME’s; performance; development. project topics on electricity supply
