THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SAVE A SOUL MOBILE APPLICATION

ABSTRACT

Save a Soul project objective is to handle donations and connect the donators with the receivers through a mobile application. The application handles different services such as Donating items, seeing list of donations, and details of donations. The application allows users to create an account by registering and logging in thereby donating items, whereas the other users (receivers) also registers and logs in and see the list of donations and details of donations. Mainly, information is exchanged. The application is aimed to help the Abuja Nigerian society to create a sense of solidarity through modern techniques. The social implications it will have after being launched will certainly aim at closing the gap in terms of quality of life for the less fortunate citizens.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Overview

Donation is one of most of the most important things that is needed in a society to facilitate the easy giving out of things to the poor. Donation system is a mobile application that focuses on the intermediary between the donors and the receivers. The donation system will make sure that donors and receivers are able to communicate through the platform.

Also, it reduces the stress of going out to donate things. Therefore, this donation system is going to reduce the stress and cost of transportation to donate items to the needy.

Donors and receivers will have to go online to the mobile application to make this possible. This software makes it easier for anyone to donate anything they want in a simple way thereby reducing the cost of time or travelling.

1.2       Background and Motivation

Donation has existed since the beginning of man. From people donating food items to clothing and other amenities needed for the basic survival of life. Introducing my project will help to connect both the donors and the receivers which make donations to the third party which are the needy people easy.

People find it hard to donate items to those they do not know as they feel they would sell it in the market to gain profits from it. So, if these use this donation management system, they would be safe as it would be social workers or NGOs that would receive these donations and give it to those in need.

Furthermore, there are other donation systems which are mostly the blood donating system. This is where my project comes in place as it does not only involve donating food items; it also involves donating things that are needed for survival.

Donation is an already established way of giving out things in today’s world as it is very important. Watching people who do not know who to donate to motivate me to embark on this project.

Another motivation for the project is that a city like Abuja Nigeria has people who are suffering and need donors to survive. This city has a lot of people who are poor and are needy of basic amenities of life. Another case aspect is seeing the famous “Almajiri” children on the street and do not have shelter or even blanket talk more of food to themselves. With all these aspects, I believe this project would be able to reduce if not curb the situation in Abuja Nigeria.

1.3       Statement of the Problem

The donation is one of the most important things we need in a society which helps the underprivileged to get food, cloth, shoes etc.  As it is evident that in Abuja the capital of Nigeria has a very high rate of poverty. It has been observed that so many people do not have access to basic amenities to survive which is very disheartening. It is also observed that people want to donate so many things unfortunately, they are missing the way of donations.

In response to above mentioned problems, this research work will provide a means for people to donate easily without travelling anywhere at the same time the registered NGOs, as well as social workers will be added to this platform to receive and further distribute to the needy people.

1.4       Aim and Objectives

The main aim of this project is to bridge the gap between the less privileged and the fortunate people in terms of donation items.

The Major objective of this project are:

  1.     To find out the means of donations in Abuja city
  2.     To develop an app which will help in donating and receiving things
  3.     Register the donor, NGO, social workers….
  4.     Test and validate the APP

1.5       Significance of the Project

The implementation of this project has potential to benefit primarily, those people who are needy, and that is the poor and needy. The donation management system would help in developing the growth of how ho donation would be done. It provides a better medium for support of the less privileged. More lives would be touched and dreams would be made true through this system. By doing this, it creates a better society with less crime, hatred amongst citizens as they would not steal to eat or have a better life. This positive development could extend to other states, countries and thereby making the world a better place to live in. with this donation system in existence, donation of anything as far as it is useful would be possible.

1.6      Project Risks Assessment

Risk analysis is done for only one reason: Would you manage the project differently if any of your risks happened?

Table 1.1: Risks and Solutions

Risk Solutions
Loss of work due to document corrupted Weekly data backup to Google drive or Hard Drive
Loss of codes Upload codes to cloud after each session
Laptop failure Anti-virus is downloaded and installed

1.7       Scope/Project Organization

The project is organized into five chapters. It is divided into five chapters so that all requirements are fulfilled which enables easy understanding of the project as it is broken down into sections.

  • Chapter 1: Introduction – this chapter introduces the project and gives the vivid detail about the project.
  • Chapter 2: Literature review – this chapter focuses on findings of other works which are relevant to the project.
  • Chapter 3: Methodology, Analysis and Design –this chapter focuses on the chosen methodology, the analysis tools as well as the design of the project.
  • Chapter 4: Implementation – this chapter focuses on the aspect of coding and the test carried out with a result of the test.
  • Chapter 5: Evaluation, Conclusion and Recommendation – this chapter focuses on the conclusion of the project, the overall evaluation as well as the required recommendation.

1.8       Feasibility Study

Project general context:

Save a soul is a project that mainly manages donations. The main concept of this project is connecting donors and receivers which the receivers are mainly those that represent the less privileged people. This application will be a mobile application due to state where it is common to use apps for most activities

1.8.1 Client analysis:

This project is targeted at all citizens but does it answer the question. Do they actually need this application?

It is known that people donate to those that are known or go to those that have an association. That’s why as a future enhancement this project is going to have a feature whereby an introduction of a different user can represent a family of the less privileged since technology is not accessible by everyone. Moreover, this project also closes the gap between the donors and receivers as interaction is made and accounted for.

1.8.2    Market Analysis:

While doing my research, I could not find a product like this in Nigeria, I believe this is a new idea that is yet to be implemented but this project would be the first of its kind.

My application focuses on bringing together both donors and receivers irrespective of background.

1.8.3    Economic Feasibility:

The first part of this project does not cost anything as all tools used in developing this application are all open source. The only cost it takes it the human effort and that of time. As time is needed in making donation and receiving donations. Finally, where the issue of cost comes up is when this app would be submitted to app store, it would need a submission fee. Also, maintenance of the app will generate cost due to managing the users and storing data.

1.8.4    Technical Feasibility:

This project is feasible in technical terms. All tools that are needed only require a fair amount of time and knowledge to get acquainted with them.

1.9       Summary:

The concept of this project was actually a personal project that is not aimed to generate profit. Why you may ask? This is because the society needs more help than it ever needs. However, the major profit is the experience and outcome of generating such an application. The scope of my application targets mainly two users with an addition of an admin. While generating users, appropriate information was done. This project has a great social implication in terms of creating a great solidarity along closing the gap for the less privileged in terms of quality of life.
