| PERCEIVED IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE MANAGEMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NORTH CENTRAL STATES OF NIGERIA.
Abstract |
| The perception of principals and teachers on the impact of climate change, manifestation as flooding and extreme temperature on secondary school human and material resources and their management was studied. Five research questions were postulated with five corresponding null hypotheses to guide the study. Descriptive survey was adopted for the study. The population for the study was 30, 173 principals and teachers of secondary schools in North central states of Nigeria The sample for the study was 123 principals and 1,479 teachers drawn randomly through stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected using a 52 item researcher developed questionnaire, structured and designed on a 4-point response scale. The questionnaire was face validated by two experts in Educational Administration and planning, and one expert from Measurement and Evaluation all from the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka. The internal consistency reliability co-efficient of the instrument for the clusters obtained through Cronbach alpha method were 0.86, 0.70, 0.90, 0.90 and 0.91 for clusters A to E respectively. The instrument had overall reliability index of 0.95. Out of 1,602 copies of the questionnaire that were distributed, 1,545 were returned. Data was analysed using the mean scores, standard deviations and t-test. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0 05 level of significance. |
