MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOL FACILITIES FOR EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY IN PUBLIC COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN NORTH CENTRAL STATES OF NIGERIA .

Abstract

The study investigated management of school facilities for effective instructional delivery in colleges of education in North Central states of Nigeria. Six research questions and four null hypotheses guided the study. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. 1,185 respondents involving 1,092 students, 63 lecturers, 17 staff of works department and 15 management staff selected through simple sampling and balloting were used for the study.

College of Education School Facilities Check-list (COESFC) and Colleges of Education School Facilities Management Questionnaire (COESFMQ) were used as instruments for data collection The data collected were analyzed with percentage while mean and standard deviation were used to answer research questions 3 to 6.

The t-test statistic was used to test the four (4) null hypotheses that guided the study. The findings revealed that many of the facilities were available but inadequate; facilities such as; functional e-library, constant power supply and functional office intercommunication system are not available. Both lecturers and students often and seldomly utilized the available facilities for effective instructional delivery Some problems encountered by both lecturers and management staff in the management of school facilities include poor funding, lack of statistical data and poor maintenance culture.
